Abstract

The garment industry in Indonesia is growing rapidly. Currently the garment industry is not only in the capital city but also other cities such as Jepara Regency. The establishment of PT. Jiale and PT. Samwon garment factories in the District of Pecangaan, Jepara Regency has absorbed a lot of labor. So do not rule out the possibility that the existence of the factory in the community, causing a change and impact on the community. So that it needs further investigation. The purpose of this study is assessing the socio-economic characteristics of the community on the development of garment factories in the District of Pecangaan and also the social and economic impacts of the development of the garment factory on the community in the District of Pecangaan. The method used is a community survey taken from data per Family Card in Gemulung Village of 1,231 family cards and Pulodarat Village of 1,665 family cards. Based on the population size, a purposive sampling method was taken, the sample of Gemulung Village was 92 samples per working family and 94 Pulodarat villages per family card. Data collection is done through observation by observing how the environmental conditions of the community around the factory and interviews with the community with a questionnaire. The data analysis method used is quantitative descriptive analysis and spatial interaction analysis. The results obtained show that the socio-economic conditions of the people in Gemulung and Pulodarat villages have good conditions, especially after the establishment of a garment factory. Social and economic conditions before and after the founding of the factory can be seen from changes in employment and income from the community. Positive impacts on social conditions in the form of job vacancies and opening of new business fields, for negative impacts in the form of sewage pollution that causes odors and air pollution. And the positive impact on economic conditions is the increase in community income, while the negative impact is in the form of high land prices.
