Abstract

The purpose of this study was to (1) Develop comic instructional media in the of social science subjects of climate conditions in Indonesia topic related to flood disaster in VII class of SMP N 1 Ngemplak, (2) Know the increase in knowledge and learning outcomes of grade VII students about flood disaster by using comic instructional media and not using media. This research was a research and development (R&D) with the model of development using Thiagarajan Design Model 4D modified into 3D model (Define, Design, Development). The subject of the study was VII A class with 32 students as an experimental class and the VII G class with 32 students as the control class. Data collection techniques were observation and instruments using pre-test and post-test with quantitative descriptive analysis techniques. The results of the study showed (1) Define about the teacher and student requirement test, design contains the design of the comic that has been analyzed according to requirement test, development contains validation to know the product was worthy to use, after the assessment by the material expert, media expert, students and teachers obtained an average of 4.55 that belongs to "GOOD" category, (2) The results of pre-test in the control class and experiment class were 57.65 and 62.81, the results of post-test in the control class and experiment class were 67.65 and 83.12. The hypothesis showed a significant 0.000 (< 0.05) where H0 rejected and H1 was received. There was a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test in both the control and experimentation, but greater increase occurred in the experimental class compared to the control class.
