Abstract

Background: Events falling in the elderly can be caused by a decrease in muscle strength under extrimitas and a balance disorder that occurs due to the abnormal shape of the foot and the influence of the surrounding environmental factors. The shape of the foot is based on the arch of the foot to be three, namely the normal leg arch, high leg arch and low leg arch. The research aims to analyse the relationship form of the foot and the body mass index with the risk of falling in the elderly in RSI Sultan Agung Semarang. Research method: Analytic research with cross sectinal design is implemented in RSI Sultan Agung Semarang in December 2019 – January 2020, with a sample number of 55 elderly with consecutive sampling technique. Research instrument using TUG test to know the risk of falling in elderly. Data analysis using linear regression. Result: Leg-shape relationship to the risk of falling by 2.05 with the value of p value = 0045 (P < 0.05), BMI relationship to the risk of falling 2.39 with the value of p value = 2 0.021 (P < 0.05), the relationship of the leg and BMI with the risk of falling down in the elderly at the medical rehabilitation installation RSI Sultan Agung Semarang with a value of F (7.597) dengan p value 0.001 (p< 0.05). Conclusion: There is a relationship between the leg shape and the BMI to the risk of falling down in the elderly in the rehabilitation of medical installation of the Sultan Agung RSI, where the increasing the value of legs and BMI will increase the risk of falling.
