Abstract

This research was conducted in Playen Subdistrict located in the administrative area of Gunungkidul Regency, Yogyakarta Special Province. Gunungkidul Regency is known as an area that still has a fairly large forest cover and has experienced many changes in the last few decades, especially in the Playen Subdistrict. Forest change is caused by human use for agricultural land, settlements, and others. Therefore, it is necessary to monitor to see the changes that occur in the Playen forest and the impacts felt by the community around the forest area. The data used for analysis in this study are multitemporal remote sensing imagery, namely Landsat 5 TM in 1991, Landsat 7 ETM + in 2002, and Landsat 8 OLI / TIRS in 2018. Analysis of land cover change is done by overlapping data on the results of land cover classification, ie 1991 - 2002 and 2002 - 2018. The results of this analysis show patterns of spatial change and the rate of change from land cover, especially forests. The results of this study indicate that in 1991 forest cover was 1895,5 hectares, then experienced an increase in area intensity in 2002 to 2672,6 hectares, and increased again to 4135,3 hectares in 2018. Forest changes in the 1991-2002 period were different from 2002-2018, because community participation in forest management and development began with community forestry activities (Hutan Kemasyarakatan/HKm) in 2003 to the present, as well as the development of community forests (Hutan Rakyat/HR) in rural areas such as residential areas and agricultural land.
