Abstract
Background: The ability possessed by the joints to make maximum movements according to their ability in full ROM is called flexibility. Flexibility is an important factor in supporting daily activities. One exercise that can increase flexibility is pilates. Pilates is a mind-body exercise that focuses on flexibility, stability, muscle control, posture and breathing. Exercise can be with mat-based or special equipment. Purpose : The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of pilates exercises on lumbar flexibility on members of the Hizbul Wathan University of Muhammadiyah Surakarta University 2016-2018. Benefits : The benefits that can be drawn from this study are that it can increase lumbar flexibility so as to maximize daily activities, especially at the Hizbul Wathan activities at the Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta. Method : The method used is quasi-experimental and then uses pre-test and post-test design with control. The number of samples used was 20, the sampling technique with purposive sampling according to criteria. After that the sample is divided into two groups namely control and treatment. The study was conducted 2 times every week for 4 weeks. Measuring instruments used sit and reach test. Results : There is the effect of pilates exercises on lumbar flexibility on members of Hizbul Wathan University of Muhammadiyah Surakarta class of 2016-2018.
