Abstract
Power Transformer is a static equipment with two or more turns through electromagnetic induction that changes the low voltage system to high voltage or vice versa at the same frequency for the purposes of electricity distribution. In the operation of this transformer can not be separated from disturbances, therefore transformers need safety equipment or protection systems to avoid loss or minimize interference. Protection to secure the power transformer from interference one of which is a differential relay, this relay is used to secure the protected area precisely in the internal transformer when there is a short circuit or short circuit between phases and interference to the ground. The initial step in this research is to look for data relating to research, this data is taken at Tanjung Jati B PLTU units 1 & 2 in Jepara, then look for references in the form of journals that correspond to the title of this study. After all the desired data is collected, a mathematical calculation is performed. From the calculations that have been made, the value of CT1 ratio 25,000: 5 A and CT2 1,500: 5 A, the selection of the CT ratio is adjusted to the specifications on the market. From the calculation, the differential relay current setting is 1,1 A. In the 3 phase short circuit fault current of 6,000 A, the differential current value of 2,96 A is obtained, because the differential relay current setting of 1.1 A is smaller than the differential current, the differential relay work and instruct PMT to trip. Whereas for 3 phase short circuit fault of 2,500 A, the differential current value of 1,08 A is obtained, because the differential setting current of 1.1 A is greater than the differential current, the differential relay will not work. The nominal current tolerance that can pass through the power transformer is 4,395 A.
