Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) analysis of corn stalk powder fiber material with a polypropylene plastic matrix as well as the description of microstructure and characteristics of biodegradable composites. Environmental pollution is a problem that must be taken seriously by all levels of society, especially pollution caused by loading plastic waste. The amount of plastic waste produced is on average around 10% of the total volume of waste, where less than 1% of plastic can be destroyed because plastic waste is based on synthetic polymers and is difficult to decipher by decomposing bacteria. To overcome this environmental problem, one way that can be done is to develop biodegradable plastic material (bioplastics), which is plastic that is easily broken down by microorganisms into simple compounds that are environmentally friendly. In the test method carried out on this composite is SEM (Scanning Electron Microscope) and micro photographs, objects that are photographed cross-section of fibers in the specimens, for the composites used in this study using a polypropylene plastic matrix with corn stalk powder fibers with 95% composition variation. polypropylene plastic, 5% corn stalk powder, composition by 90% polypropylene plastic, 10% corn stalk powder and composition by 85% polypropylene plastic, 15% corn stalk powder. SEM test results show variations of 85: 15% more glue between plastic and polypropylene can have a more significant impact on the mechanical properties of composites, this can be proven by photographs of Scanning Electron Microscopy results where the surface of the fiber looks better.
