Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of Aluminium casting using squeeze methode for density, porosity defects, hardness and microstructure. The raw material of this research is to use aluminum piston former which is melted in a small-scale smelting kitchen. In this study, using 3 variations of reduction, namely: reduction of 15%, 20% and 25% of the volume of casting products with the squeeze casting method. The results showed that the chemical composition according to the reference found the chemical element (Al) 87.13% as the main ingredient, (Si) 6.14%, (Zn) 2.87%, (Fe) 1.79%, (Cu) 1.50%. So that from the elements present this material includes silicon Aluminum alloy metal (Al-Si). The results of the calculation of the density with a reduction of 15% by 2.49 gr / cm3, a reduction of 20% by 2.64 gr / cm3 and a reduction of 25% by 2.73 gr / cm3. The higher the density value, the more dense the material and less porosity. Vickers hardness test results showed that the 15% reduction variation of 110.22 HVN, 20% reduction of 115.44 HVN and 25% reduction of 119.8 HVN. The data shows that the higher the density, the higher the price of violence. Microstructure observation shows that at 25% reduction the β phase looks denser and more evenly distributed than the reduction of 20% and the reduction of 15%.
