Abstract
The object of the research is the novel entitled Daisy Miller written by Henry James. The objective of the study is to examine how Daisy’s struggle against European tradition which is reflected in Henry James’s Daisy Miller based on psychoanalytic approach. The research is conducted by using qualitative method. The writer uses two data sources namely primary and secondary data source. The primary data is novel Daisy Miller written by Henry James. The secondary data sources are the other sources related to the analysis. The method of the data collection is library research. The technique of data analysis is descriptive analysis. The results of the research are as follows: first, the analysis of structural elements of Daisy Miller novel are connected each other to a whole unity that cannot be separated one from another in order to support each other. Second, Daisy Miller is Henry James’s literary work that tells about Daisy’s struggle against the European tradition to get her rightful authority in using tradition. The last, psychoanalytic analysis shows that Daisy’s struggle against European tradition derives from her ego.
