Abstract
This research aims to determine the chemical composition contained in aluminum material found in casting and the influence of initial mold temperature variations of 100 °C, 150 °C, 200 °C on density, porosity, hardness, and microstructure of cast aluminum products. This study uses a permanent mold, the variation used is the initial temperature of the permanent mold with a temperature of 100 °C, 150 °C, and 200 °C. To find out the chemical composition, testing using the Emmision Spectrometer test tool, porosity can be determined by observing using micro photographs and looking for density values, hardness testing on the results of cast using Brinell hardness and microstructure testing using Metallographic Microscope test equipment. Analysis of the data shows that in the chemical composition there are 16 elements consisting of (Al) 86.91%, (Si) 8.11%, (Fe) 1.08%, (Cu) 0.256% and other elements, so this material includes metals aluminum aluminum alloy (Al-Si). Observation of porosity in the micro photo shows that the higher the initial temperature of the mold, the less porosity of the cast product, and vice versa. Porosity is obtained from the density value with a initial mold temperature variation of 200 °C at 2.7 gr / ml while the initial mold temperature of 150 °C is 2.5 gr / ml and the initial mold temperature of 100 °C is 2.4 gr / ml. the density value then the material is getting denser and porosity is less. Material density is related to hardness which is also higher with Brinell hardness test results with a variation of the initial mold temperature of 200 °C at 80.50 BHN, the price of this hardness is highest compared to the hardness using the initial mold temperature of 150 °C at 77.50 BHN and the initial mold temperature of 100 °C is 76.00 BHN. Seen from the microstructure, the initial mold temperature variation of 200 °C granules looks smaller than the initial mold temperature variation of 150 °C and 100 °C the larger the grain, the smaller the grain diameter the higher the hardness of the material.
