Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the improvement of speaking skills using audio visual media with the retelling method in third grade students at SD Muhammadiyah 1 Wonogiri 2019/2020 Tahun Ajaran 2019/2020. The form of this research is classroom action research (CAR), which is carried out in two cycles. Each cycle consists of two meetings and four stages, namely planning, implementing actions, observing, and reflecting. The subjects of this study were teachers and third grade students of SD Muhammadiyah 1 Wonogiri with the number of class III students totaling 26 students, the data collection techniques used were observation, interviews, and documentation. The data analysis technique used is an interactive analysis model from Miles & Huberman. Test the validity of this study using triangulation of techniques. Based on the results of this study it can be concluded that the increase in speaking skills using audio visual media with retelling methods has increased the speaking skills of third grade students of SD Muhammadiyah 1 Wonogiri. This increase can be proven by an increase in the value of students' speaking skills in each cycle. Indicators of speaking skills include five indicators, namely: (1) fluency in speech, (2) accuracy of pronunciation, (3) mastery of the material, (4) tone or pressure, and (5) vocabulary. This increase can be proven by an increase in the value of students' speaking skills in each cycle. The average value of students' speaking skills before action was only 59 with a percentage of completeness of 19%. The average value after the first cycle of action is 69.5 with 54% completeness, and the second cycle the average value of students is 80 with 96% completeness.
