Abstract
NOVI FUAT ARI SETIAWAN. NIM. Q 100140115 Analysis of Difficulties in Problems Solving Mathematical Story for Students Grade VII Middle School SMP N 2 Tanon Academic Year 2015/2016. Educational Administration Study Program, Postgraduate University Muhamadiyah of Surakarta. The purpose of this study is to describe: 1) the difficulty of students in understanding the questions of the Mathematics National Examination in grade VII material. 2) students' difficulties in making math sentences about the National Exam story in class VII material. 3) students' difficulties in completing the steps for narrating the National Examination in grade VII. The research method uses qualitative research, which is a study aimed at describing and analyzing phenomena, events, social activities attitudes, beliefs, perceptions, thoughts of people, society, and groups. The research approach was a case study of eighth grade students at SMP Negeri 2 Tanon Sragen. Data analysis techniques used interactive methods from Miles and Huberman. The results showed that the types of difficulties encountered include difficulties in understanding, making mathematical sentences, and steps to solve mathematical story problems systematically, especially on the subject matter set of 2015/2016 state exams. These difficulties are largely due to the lack of understanding in interpreting story problems into mathematical models and formulas. Keywords: difficulties, story problems, set material, junior high school students, class vii ABSTRAK Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mendiskripsikan: 1) kesulitan siswa dalam memahami soal cerita Ujian Nasional matematika pada materi kelas VII. 2) kesulitan siswa dalam membuat kalimat matematika soal cerita Ujian Nasional materi kelas VII. 3) kesulitan siswa dalam melakukan langkah penyelesaian soal cerita Ujian Nasional pada materi kelas VII. Metode penelitian menggunakan jenis penelitian kualitatif, yaitu suatu penelitian yang ditujukan untuk mendiskripsikan dan menganalisis fenomena, peristiwa, aktivitas sosial sikap, kepercayaan, persepsi, pemikiran orang, masyarakat, maupun kelompok. Pendekatan penelitian dengan studi kasus terhadap siswa kelas VII di SMP Negeri 2 Tanon Sragen. Teknik analisis data digunakan metode interaktif dari Miles dan Huberman. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa jenis kesulitan yang ditemui antara lain kesulitan dalam memahami, membuat kalimat matematika, dan langkah-langkah penyelesaian soal cerita matematika secara sistematis khususnya pada materi himpunan soal cerita ujian negara tahun 2015/2016. Kesulitan-kesulitan tersebut sebagian besar disebabkan karena kurangnya pemahaman dalam menginterprestasikan soal cerita ke dalam model-model maupun rumus matematika.
