Abstract

This study aims: (1) to describe the metacognitive strategies used by good achievers in the eleventh grade at SMK Batik 1 Surakarta and (2) to explain the metacognitive strategies mostly preffered by good achievers in the eleventh grade at SMK Batik 1 Surakarta in learning reading. The research subjects consisted of 6 eleventh grade good achievers of TKJ 2 SMK Batik 1 Surakarta, and the object of this study was to focus on good achievers in the use of metacognitive strategies in reading skills. The study uses qualitative method, namely by conducting observations, questionnaires, and interviews. Technique of data analysis uses data collection, data reduction, data display, drawing conclusion. The results of this study show that: (1) there are three metacognitive strategies used by good achievers, namely: centering your learning, arranging and planning your learning, evaluating and planning, (2) there are five strategies most widely used by good achievers in learning, namely: paying attention, delaying speech production to focus on listening, finding out about language learning, seeking practice opportunities, overview and linking with already known material.
