Abstract
Smartphone technology is an innovation of mobile phone technology before. The innovations that exist in smartphones are smartphones are already integrated with the internet and able to work like a computer. This research aims to know the clear picture of the process of adoption of smartphone innovations in the old generation with a qualitative descriptive approach. This research uses the diffusion theory of innovation with a focus on innovation adoption process. This research is a type of qualitative research. The sampling techniques used are purposive sampling techniques. Researchers used the sample of the old generation community in the village of Repaking, Wonosamodro, Boyolali. Data collection techniques are done through the interview indepth as primary data. For the validity of researchers data using source triangulation. The results showed that smartphones are a technology that can fulfill various needs at once such as the need to stay connected with other individuals, access information, and facilitate work. The adopter category in this study belongs to the type of late adopters. Late adopters uses interpersonal channels to find information on how to use and benefit this technology. The process of innovation adoption in the research goes according to the stage starting from the knowledge, persuion stage, decision stage, implementation stage, and confirmation stage.
