Abstract

Friction Stir Welding (FSW) is a process of friction welding that twists the tool by utilizing heat energy and emphasis without any additives and fillers This research aims to determine the nature of mechanical and micro structures on copper and brass joints with friction stir welding with variation of pin cross section. In this welding process use a milling machine with a feedrate parameter of 30mm/min, tool tilt angle of 3 º and a tool rotation speed of 900 rpm. Pin-section shapes are taping, triangular, and square cylinders. The Material used is copper and brass with a length of 150 mm, width of 70 mm and a thickness of 3 mm. Tensile test result on triangular pin section shapes has a tensile strength of 213, 01MPa, the Cross-section shape of the Sillinder pin amounted to 122.76 MPa while the Square pin section of 203.74 MPa. Next the square pin cross section of stretch value is 14.76%, the strain value of the cylinder pin cross section is taping by 8.05%, the stretch value of the pin cross section of triangleis 11.76. The violent value of the triangular pin is centered in a weld of 98.33 VHN, the hardness value of the weld center on the cross section of the sillinder pin of 90.66 VHN and the hardness value of the square pin cross section of 95.66 VHN. While the violent value of the HAZ-Cu area of the taping Sillinder pin section was 58.33 VHN, the triangular pin section was 68.66 VHN and a square pin section of 61.66 VHN. Further violent value on the HAZ-CuZn region form a pin-cross section of the taping Sillinder 97.33 VHN, triangular pin cross shape 99.66 VHN, square pin cross shape 102 VHN. And for photos of triangular pin cross section, the micro structure produces a smoother microstructure than a taper or square cylinder pin.
