Abstract

The construction of the Makamhaji Underpass in addition to having a positive impact in facilitating the flow of traffic also has socio-economic impacts, such as a decline in the level of economic income and the development of community businesses around the Makamhaji Underpass. The business community must adapt to the conditions after the construction of the Makamhaji Underpass to maintain its socioeconomic life. The purpose of this study was to determine: the characteristics and adaptation of entrepreneurs in the corridor of Jalan Slamet Riyadi Kartasura to the existence of the Makamhaji Underpass. This research is a type of qualitative descriptive research conducted in the field. The research population is all business operators in the vicinity of the Makamhaji Underpass area, especially those located in the corridor of Slamet Riyadi Road Kartasura. Samples were taken by census technique. Sources of data obtained from primary data from interviews with informants. Data collection techniques using interviews, observation, and documentation. Data validity uses source triangulation. Data analysis techniques using qualitative descriptive analysis and environmental analysis (ecological analysis). The results showed that: (1) The characteristics of entrepreneurs around the Makamhaji Underpass corridor Slamet Riyadi road Kartasura were mostly male (75%), aged between 31 - 40 years (43.8%), and education level at the high school / vocational high school level (43.8%). In terms of the type of business being run, the majority of respondents engaged in the shop of goods suppliers, namely 43.8% with a business duration of more than 10 years (43.8%); (2) Adaptations carried out by business operators around the Makamhaji Underpass towards declining business development are by moving business locations (43.8%), continuing business by 37.5%, changing types of businesses by 6.3%, and the other strategy is 12.5%. The adaptation strategy undertaken is an active socio-economic adaptation strategy that is carried out while maintaining a business on the underpass, moving to another location, and encouraging his wife and children to join in earning a living.
