Abstract

This research aims to find out and describe. 1) the principal’s strategy in increasing the professionalism of teachers in 3 colomadu state junior high school. 2) the effects on teachers of the strategies undertaken by the principal in enhancing teacher professionalism. This type of research is qualitative research. Data collection methods using observation, interviews and documentation. Data analysis using descriptive analysis, with the conclusion drawing using a deductive method that departs from general events and than reduced to specific parts. The result of this study are: 1) School principals used five strategies to improve teacher professionalism, namely mentoring, empowerment programs for subject teachers (MGMP), wrokshops, improvement of teacher education qualification, academic supervision. 2) the impact of the strategy undertaken by the principal in enhancing the professionalism of the first teacher is the mentoring of fostering cooperation between the teacher with the principal to exchange information from experiences related to the problems at hand. Secondly, the problem teacher program (MGMP) empowerment program for subjects related to the subject matter will be resolved propely. Third, the teacher’s workshop gained new skills related to classroom learning so that the teacher could created new innovations. Fourth, namely improving teacher education qualification, teachers who have not met the minimum criteria according to the law. Fifth, academic supervision becomes constructive criticism for teachers so that in the future it will get better.
