Abstract
This study aims to determine the effect of differences in black sand molds and permanent molds on the value of tensile strength, microstructure, and chemical composition of aluminum casting with the addition of black tin by 20%. This study uses used aluminum materials and used Black Tin which are melted back using crucible furnaces. Aluminum is first cut to dimensions of 5X5X1 cm and melted to make a homogeneous material, then melted back by adding Pb by 20%, after being re-poured into the black sand mold and permanent mold for tensile test specimens, microstructure, and chemical composition, when aluminum has hardened and cooled the mold was dismantled to retrieve the results of the specimens to be made by specimens. The specimens resulting from remelting using sand mold and permanent mold were then tested for tensile strength and obtained maximum tensile strength in sand mold 132.3 N / mm2, while in permanent mold obtained 168.78 N / mm2, and the bias was concluded that the tensile strength was the highest is that uses permanent prints. For microstructure testing the results of aluminum granules are larger than the other elements, while the most dense black and permanent sand molds are permanent molds. For testing the chemical composition of the addition of 20% Pb only reads 2.2778%, due to the nature of the Pb which will settle when casting, and the percentage of used tin itself is 14.6629%, therefore the final result of the study is only 2.2778% .
