Abstract

ABSTRACT This research is a discussion about application of school-based management. Departing from a phenomenon where the present school institutions are competing to show the existence of schools through superior programs they have. This is done by regulating school management in such a way that it produces programs that can advance the school. Management is a process carried out to achieve organizational goals by working together in a team. Whereas school-based management is a management that is based on each school by utilizing existing resources within the school. This is at the same time in order to find out the model of improving the quality of Muhammadiyah schools in Central Java in the ISMUBA field. It also assessed how the governance and culture of Muhammadiyah schools that are internationally competitive. The subject of this research is a school institution namely SMP Muhammadiyah 5 Surakarta. What we want to know is how the application of school-based management in SMP Muhammadiyah 5 Surakarta, and what are the obstacles of implementing school-based management in SMP Muhammadiyah 5 Surakarta itself. By using qualitative research methods and phenomenological approaches. While the data collection techniques used are observation, interviews, and documentation. In analyzing the data the author uses steps ranging from reducing data, presenting data to drawing conclusions. The results of the research that has been done namely, there are seven components of school-based management that have been run well by the school. The seven components are: 1) management of curriculum and teaching, 2) management of educators and education staff, 3) management of students, 4) management of finance and financing, 5) management of facilities and infrastructure, 6) management of public relations and 7) management of special services . While the obstacles that occur in the implementation of school-based management in SMP Muhammadiyah 5 Surakarta come from students and school personnel. From students namely lack of discipline, while from school personnel is lack of cohesiveness and lack of understanding of the substance of school-based management itself.
