Abstract
This study aims to describe the mistakes made by students and determine the factors that influence errors and solutions to minimize these errors. This research is a qualitative descriptive study, involving 42 students from class E semester II of Muhammadiyah University, Surakarta. Data collection techniques in this study are tests and interviews. The results of this study can be concluded that the five mistakes made by students are: (1) Reading errors, students do not master the material so students are confused when reading questions, and students are less prepared in taking the test. (2) Comprehension errors, students do not understand what is being asked by the questions. (3) Transformation errors, students cannot determine the right solution to solve problems. (4) Process skills errores, students are not careful in doing calculations and are in a hurry in working on problems, and students are wrong in using formulas so they cannot continue working on problems or wrong in final answers. (5) Encoding errors, students rush in working on false so that they do not write the final answer, besides that students are not accustomed to writing the final answer. Factors that cause students to experience errors in working on problems include: Students lack knowledge of the material, cannot understand the problem correctly, do not know the solution that must be used, incorrectly use the formula, forget the formula used, not careful in calculating, rushed in working on the problems, not careful with the final answers, and not accustomed to writing conclusions.
