Abstract
The development of nonmetallic materials is mostly directed at the development of composites, materials that are formed from a combination of two or more forming materials through a heterogeneous mixture. Waste-based composite is an environmentally friendly alternative material. This study developed a composite made from banana waste and cassava peel. Composite manufacturing is carried out by reducing the cassava skin to a homogeneous carbon powder and then mixing with banana fronds at random orientation and epoxy resin. On the banana fibers pretreatment using 5% NaOH for 2 hours to degrade lignin. This study aims to determine the effect of the composition of the composite filler with epoxy resin on the impact test, water absorption test, and volume change test. The variations in composition of banana fiber, cassava peel charcoal, and epoxy resin, were made for 0: 0: 100 mL, 5 g: 5 g: 90 mL, 10 g: 10 g: 80 mL, and 15 g: 15 g: 70 mL. From the results of the study it was found that the greater the composition, the impact strength, water absorption, and volume changes increase. The best composites were obtained in the composition of 15 g: 15 g: 70 mL with an impact strength value of 0.012 J / mm2, water absorption of 0.068%, volume change of 0.067%, and all are still within SNI standards
