Abstract

This study aims to analyze and find out the types of errors made by semester VI students in solving problems in the Structure Algebra Ring course and what are the factors causing these errors. This type of research is a qualitative research with descriptive research methods. The subjects in this study were the sixth semester students taking the Structural Algebra Ring course in the Mathematics Education Study Program at the Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta by taking 5 students from a total of 33 students studied as subjects based on the level of the most frequent errors. Data collection techniques carried out in the form of tests, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis techniques through reducing data, displaying data, and drawing conclusions. The results showed that students made mistakes in solving the algebraic ring structure problems, namely: (1) Factual Errors; (2) Concept Mistakes; (3) Technical Errors; and (4) Errors in drawing conclusions. The factors that cause students to experience errors are not understanding in describing information in the problem, students do not understand the concepts used in solving problems, students are not careful in algebraic operations, and students do not determine the conclusions of the problems they have solved.
