Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe the ability to write news texts with the reverse pyramid presentation technique and describe the use of puctuation in news texts created by students of class VIII at SMP Negeri Sambi. This type of research uses qualitative research. Analysis of the data in this study is the distribution method. Data collection techniques namely documentation and note note. The results were obtained, ( ) A total of data, of students wrote news texts, while of students wrote non-news texts. Students who have mastered the presentation of the inverted pyramid and of students did not master the presentation of the inverted pyramid. ( ) The use of punctuation that is often used by students of class VIII of SMP Negeri Sambi, namely the period and hyphen. Students have mastered the dot correctly and incorrect writing of in the form of sentences. A period is used as the end of a sentence, a time indicator, and the number thousands indicates the number. Most students have not been able to master the use of hyphens. Students who wrote correctly numbered and those who wrote wrongly . Hyphens are used as line-cut words, redials, date writing, and composing foreign languages. Keywords: writing, reverse pyramid, news text, punctuation
