Abstract
Low carbon steel is steel that has a carbon content of <0.3 percent. The carburizing process aims to add carbon elements and changes the properties of metals. In this study the material used for the manufacture of charcoal comes from the leaves of bamb. Bamboo leaf charcoal is a product obtained from incomplete combustion of bamboo leaves. This study uses shakermill tools to process the High Energy Ball Milling (HEBM). This tool was modified so that steel balls collided with each other with charcoal, with a speed of 900 Rpm for 3 million cycles, with the size of an ¼ inch steel ball. From this test, carbon steel is then tested in microstructure testing and vapor hardness. Microstructure testing aims to determine the phase found on the surface of carbon steel before and after coated with bamboo charcoal. In testing the hardness of carbon carried out on carbon steel aims to determine the value of hardness after coated with bamboo leaf charcoal.
