Abstract
Sleman Regency is a hinterland area of the City of Yogyakarta, thus causing more and more residents to live in Sleman Regency. The increasing population in Sleman Regency can cause land use change. Transfer of land functions carried out continuously can cause land degradation. So it is necessary to know the level of Land Potential Index so that the existing land use is in accordance with its potential. This study aims to find out: (1) Land Potential Index Level in Sleman Regency. (2) Distribution of Land Potential Index in Sleman Regency. (3) Comparison of high Land Potential Index with existing land use in Sleman Regency. The parameters used to determine the level of Land Potential Index in an area include slope, lithology, soil type, groundwater productivity, and disaster hazard. The method used to process data is overlay, while the analytical method used is a tiered spatial analysis. This researches shows that: (1) Soil Potential Index in Sleman Regency is divided into 5 classes, namely the Land Potential Index with a class that is very low, low, medium, high, and very high. (2) The high level of Land Potential Index is the most common in almost all sub-districts. A very high Potential Soil Index level was found in the southern part of Sleman Regency. Middle level Land Potential Index is mostly found in Sleman Regency in the north and southeast. The very low Land Potential Index level is mostly found on the northern side of Sleman Regency and a small portion on the southeast side. The Low Land Potential Index has a wide distribution on the slopes of Mount Merapi. (3) The use of land that is in the potential of very low land is forests and mixed gardens. The use of land that is in the potential of low land is mixed gardens. The existing land use in the potential of medium land is shrubs, zalacca gardens, and mixed gardens. The use of land that exists in the potential of high and very high land is rice fields and settlements.
