Abstract

Language variation is the diversity of languages based on the nature of language and the language user community (Abdul Ngalim, 2015: 38). The Kriiing rubric is a short message sent by the reader, so that the language used is not the full standard language. Readers predominantly use Indonesian, but there are unique variations in the use of the language. Sociolinguistics is a branch of linguistics that examines the way languages are integrated with society (with particularities, with references, such as race, ethnicity, class, sex, and social institutions (Crystalin Abdul Ngalim, 2015: 18). The problems discussed in this study are (1) What are the characteristics of language variation in the solopos newspaper “Kriiing” rubric? (2) What are the factors causing the language variation in the solopos kriiing rubric? This study aims to (1) Describe the characteristics of language variation in the Solopos “Kriiing” rubric, and (2) Describe the factors causing the variation of languages in the Solopos newspaper kriiing rubric. The method used in this study is a qualitative description method.The data used in this study is the rubric kriiing that is in the newspaper.Source of data in this study is print media in the form of newspaper namely Solopos.The data collection technique used is pu technique staka, while the data analysis technique uses the sociolingioustic approach. The results of this study are: (1) Language variations consist of four types, namely variations in language in terms of speakers, variations in language in terms of usage, variations in language in terms of formality, and variations in language in terms of means. In this study, researchers took sampling data in the form of language variations in terms of speakers. Researchers can find 14 data in the form of utterances that contain elements of language variation contained in the Kriiing Solopos rubric, and (2) Factors causing language variations, one of which is the occurrence of code mixing and code switching events. In this study, researchers found 14 data consisting of 12 data consisting of code mixing events and 2 data switching events contained in the “Kriiing” Solopos rubric.
