Abstract
Indonesia is an agricultural country where rice husks are abundant and their use is not optimal. As well as the large amount of plastic waste due to high usage. The both materials can be used as composite raw materials. The study was conducted to determine the effect of the weight fraction of composite from rice husk and recycled High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) on the quality of composite including water absorption, density, and impact strength. The materials used are rice husk, HDPE plastic, epoxy resin and hardener. Composite specimens were made of 40%, 50%, and 60% HDPE plastic weight fractions. The water absorption decreased with increasing the weight fraction of HDPE plastics, and vice versa for the density and impact strength of izod. The water absorption of composites with the weight fraction of HDPE 60%, 50%, and 40% were 0.088 g, 0.149 g, and 0.155 g, respectively. The densities of composite were 0.83625 g/cm3, 0.83438 g/cm3, and 0.82375 g/cm3, respectively; and the impact strength izod were 71.05 kJ/m2, 59 kJ/m2, and 0.2 kJ/m2. Based on those parameters the composite from rice husk and recycled HDPE plastic meets the standard specification of composite.
