Abstract
ABSTRACT The principal's strategy is an operational long-term plan and is developed in detail in the form of tactics and the regular steps needed to improve the quality of education in schools. The strategy can be done in the form of innovative programs and neatly arranged. The principal of SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Gatak created and ran several programs, one of which was a special program for tahfidz in order to improve the quality of education and create graduates who excel academically and have noble character. The purpose of this research is to describe the principal's strategy in improving the quality of education through the Tahfidz program at SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Gatak and to describe the results / targets for achievement obtained by the school principal in improving the quality of education through the Tahfidz program at SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Gatak. The type of research used in research is field research. Data collection methods used were interviews, observation, and documentation. Data analysis methods used are data collection, data merging, data processing, and conclusions. From the results of the study, the researcher obtained the strategy carried out by the school principal in improving the quality of education through the Tahfidz program conducted at Muhammadiyah 1 Gatak Middle School by compiling a tahfidz program which included the curriculum used for the Tahfidz program, learning system, implementation of activities, delivery targets and KKM values, learning methods and media, tahfidz learning process, and the implementation of examinations. To support the special program, the principal also made a program in terms of improving human resources (teaching staff), improving facilities and infrastructure, and running kokulikuler and extracurricular activities. As for the results achieved by the principal in running the program there are approximately 54% -66% of students graduating during tahfidz testing with an average score above KKM that has been previously set, and in the non-academic field especially in morality students also experience an increase. In the teaching staff themselves also experience an increase in the quality of teaching when conducting learning activities in the classroom. For school facilities and infrastructure, the principal succeeded in building and renovating existing buildings, and could complement all the learning infrastructure needs needed by students.
