Abstract
The major problem of the research on Me, Myself, and Irene is how split personality is described in Farrelly Brother’s movie. Meanwhile, this problem is limited to the major character Charly Baileygates viewed by psychoanalytic approach. The objective of the study is to analyze movie based on the structural elements and the personality of the major character based on psychoanalytic approach. The benefit of the study is to give additional information that can be used by the other literature researchers who are interested in analyzing this movie. In conducting this study, the researcher uses qualitative research in which the data are based on primary data, the script of Me, Myself, and Irene movie. While secondary data are taken from other sources, which relate to primary data, such as the transcription of the movie, the website from the internet about the Me, Myself, and Irene movie and other resources that support the analysis. In analyzing the data, the researcher applies two approaches, they are structural analysis approach and the psychoanalytic approach. Structural analysis approach is used to analyze the elements of the movie. While, the psychoanalytic approach is used to analyze the split personality which appears in Charly Baileygates personality. The results of the analysis show that: 1) based on the structural analysis, it is evident that in Me, Myself, and Irene movie directed by Farrelly Brother’s wants to extend a message for audiences about split personality that may be resulted from the past traumatic experience, 2) based on the psychoanalytic approach, it is evident that Charly Baileygates as a major character in Me, Myself, and Irene movie has split personality and it can be seen from the characteristics which appears in his behavior.
