Abstract
The objecitives of the study are, 1) to describe the deep structure and surface structure of Buku Latihan Tidur a poetry collection by Joko Pinurbo, 2) to describe the diction, sentence style, and imagery of Buku Latihan Tidur a poetry collection by Joko Pinurbo, 3) to describe the meaning of Buku Latihan Tidur a poetry collection by Joko Pinurbo, and 4) to describe the relevance of diction, sentence style, and imagery of Buku Latihan Tidur a poetry collection by Joko Pinurbo with teaching materials in high school. The method that used in this research is descriptive qualitative, and taking data using purposive sampling technique. Data collection techniques used library techniques, data validation techniques with triangulations of data and methods, and data analysis technique using Riffateree semiotics reading method. Based on the results research and discussion can be concluded that 1) the deep structure contained of Buku Latihan Tidur a poetry collection by Joko Pinurbo includes themes, mandates, feelings, tone and atmosphere, while surface structure includes diction, denotation and connotation, images, figurative languages, rhymes and rhythms, and language styles, 2) the diction has a unique writing style, the vocabulary is easily understood by the reader, and the use of diction is related to daily life. The meaning of coffee and sleep has built a poet’s soul in this poetry collection, so it feels like real even it is just the imagination, The sentence styles of Buku Latihan Tidur a poetry collection are repetition, parallelism, and climax. The imageries of Buku Latihan Tidur a poetry collection by Joko Pinurbo are imagery of vision, hearing, motion, pronouncing, and smelling, 3) Heuristic and hermeneutic readings show of Buku Latihan Tidur a poetry collection by Joko Pinurbo are a lot about life criticsm regarding political, religious, and social aspects, 4) The results of this study are relevant to learning in high school in KD 3.16 students are required to be able to identify the atmosphere, themes, and meanings in poetry with the criteria for literary teaching materials, namely help to language skills, develop to creativity, and support to character formation.
