Abstract

To develop the skills of chemical engineering students in improving the development of alternative fuel sources, a competition was held between chemical engineering students by the American Institute of Chemical Engineers called Chem-e-Car. The purpose of this competition is to build and construct a prototype car sourced from chemical reactions. This competition is increasing from national to international regions. To participate in this competition by conduct research to analyze the potential energy sources for chem-e-car which begins with the manufacture of voltaic cells as the main energy source with variations in the electrolyte concentration of 0.5M CuSO4; 1 M and ZnSO4 0.2 M; 0.5 M; 1 M measured in the variation of the surface area of the electrode 10 cm2, 20 cm2 and 30 cm2. From the results obtained the highest power value that can be produced is in the variation of 1M ZnSO4 CuSO4 concentration on the surface area of 30 cm2 electrode which is equal to 0.0024 Watt, while the lowest power
