Abstract
Sand is one of the materials that existon earth. There are various kinds of sand forming materials among then come from weathering of volcanic rocks and some come from the shells, on aslope not only consists of clay but also a sand clay mixed and on a slope needed a retaining wall to anticipate landslide. This is what drives this research which in this study will obtain a angel of reposes value under normal conditions and a angle of reposes value in collapsing conditions which is modeling when vibrations or earthquakes can cause landslides, this research using 2 types of sand, namely Merapi sand and beach sand which will be mixed with clay with the percentage of clay addition of 0%, 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, 25%, and 30%, and by using variations in fall height worth 15cm, 25cm, and 35cm . To find out the classification of sand according to USCS, a hydrometer was tested, analysis of grains and atterberg boundaries which were obtained in the percentage of 0% to 15% addition was poorly graded sand (SP) and in the percentage of 20% -30% was sandy-clay,(SC) The testing of fine granular modulus which obtained beach sand results smaller than Merapi sand. In the angle of reposes test, there is a difference in angle when before collapse and after collapse where on sand Merapi the difference in angle occurs with increasing percentage of clay. while on the beach sand the difference in angle that occurs is greater as the addition of clay, in addition to the difference in angle there is also a loss of volume which occurs in the Merapi sand the percentage loss volume decreases with increasing clay and on the beach sand the percentage loss of volume is actually getting large or more as the percentage of clay increases due to beach sand which tends to be smooth so that when it collapses, the friction ability that causes the sand to hold back becomes lost or smaller due to the smooth surface of the sand
