Abstract

The major problem of this study is to know how is the tension between constitution and humanity reflected in Bruce Beresford’s Evelyn. The objectives of the study are: to analyze the movie based on its structural elements, and to analyze movie based on sociological analysis. In conducting this study, the researcher uses qualitative research, in which the primary data is Evelyn movie, and the secondary data is the other data related to the research such as books of Sociological theories, movie script, commentaries, and the relevant information. The result of the analysis can be seen in two conclusions. First, it is evident that in this movie, Bruce Beresford wants to convey a message that the law might be undermined by constitution and humanity. Here, the rules based on the God’s guidance cannot be blocked by the human’s tension through the constitution. Second, this movie show that, on that time, there is a tension between constitution and humanity in making decision of the rule in the form of conservative powers and persevere man who prosecutes for justice. Through this analysis, it is true that some aspects in the life can influence people’s way of life, social principle, and moral responsibility. Daily life is formed by the environment and the society around them.
