Abstract

This study aims to determine: (1) the criteria for GIS-based website instructional media, (2) the feasibility of the media development, and (3) the effectiveness of GISbased website media on geographic subjects for disaster mitigation material. This research and development used the Borg and Gall models. The research design utilized Pre-test Post-test Control Group Design. The study was conducted at Jatinom 1 Senior High School by taking 2 classes for research, one class as an experimental class and one class as a control class. Data analysis to test the feasibility of media used quantitative descriptive technique and the effectiveness of media used T-test. The results showed: (1) the respondents wanted the website to be accessible online either through computers or smartphones, besides that the disaster vulnerability map was adjusted to the research area along with disaster data and information. (2) the feasibility assessment of the media by the expert team, possessed average score by 4.77 and the respondent's assessment by 4.66; both were in the "Good" category. (3) furthermore the results of the pre-test and post-test the experimental class has 2 increased by 65.20% while the control class by 24.59%. The results of the T-test took possesion of a significance value by 0.00 less than 0.005. Overall the GIS-based website media was effectively used as a media in disaster mitigation learning in class XI Senior High School of 1 Jatinom.
