Abstract

Muhammadiyah Junior High School of 2 Boja is one of the Islamic-based private schools in Kendal Regency that instills character in students through activities that have been programmed by schools carried out with various methods. This study was written to describe how the method of instilling character with students and finding out what characters were instilled in students at Muhammadiyah 2 Junior High School of 2 Boja. This research includes field research, namely research conducted by visiting the school directly as the object of research. While the methods used in data collection are interviews, observation and documentation. The data analysis method used is data reduction, data presentation and conclusion drawing. Based on the research that the researchers have done, the researchers can draw the conclusion that the method of character planting in Muhammadiyah Junior High School of 2 Boja is carried out using six methods, namely habituation methods, exemplary methods, advice methods, reward and punishment methods, methods in subjects and direct methods and indirect. Of the six methods used, the most prominent and often used method is habituation, because by getting used to attitudes and behaviors it will make a habit or routine in everyday life. While the characters instilled in students at Muhammadiyah Junior High School of 2 Boja include: a. Religious, the planting of religious character is carried out through the activities of the ṣuḥa and tadarus, the ṣalat ẓuhur activities in congregation, culture and recitation. b. Discipline, planting the character of discipline is carried out through the activity of shaking hands in the morning when entering the school area and the morning activities held every Monday. c. Social care, planting social caring characters is done through compulsory charity and sunnah charity and student recitation activities. d. Caring for the environment, planting the character of environmental care is done through social service activities. Of the four characters instilled in students, the most prominent character is religious character, because this school is the Islamic scripture that seeks students to always get closer to Allah. In addition to these four characters, the other characters that are implanted are honest, honest character planting can be applied when the exam is ongoing and applied to students who are unable to pray. Other characters are independent, independent character planting can be applied when students want to pray when they are going to pray.
