Abstract

The public library in Pekalongan district is still one with the Regional Archives Office in a building that is not wide enough. This must be a problem for the library, because in one building that is not wide enough, it accommodates 2 different functions, namely the function as a library and functions as an archival area. As for the consequences of this problem, the library is not able to accommodate many visitors, cannot function optimally, both in terms of comfort, service, and certainly limited space due to the need to share space with the Regional Archives Office. The purpose of designing a public library in Pekalongan district is, with the existence of a public library that has its own building / stand alone can accommodate more visitors, more book collections, and can provide better comfort and service than before, so that it can increase the interest of visitors who come to the library, and increase reading interest in Pekalongan district community. So that it has an impact on improving the quality of human resources (HR) in Pekalongan regency. The conceptual approach to be used in public library buildings is the biophilic design concept approach. This concept aims to create a place that is good for humans, so that it can promote health, fitness, improve well-being, reduce stress, and improve cognitive function and creativity by harmonizing the relationship between nature, humans, and the design of the built environment. This concept is suitable for use in buildings that have functions as educational facilities such as libraries, because these buildings require high comfort and tranquility in each space. This is inseparable from the function of the library building as a place to read and understand a book.
