Abstract
The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between democratic leadership style and employee motivation. The hypothesis proposed is that there is a positive relationship between democratic leadership style and employee motivation. The subjects in this study were 70 employees in one of the companies in Surakarta, using quota sampling techniques. The data collection tool in this study uses a scale of democratic leadership style and work motivation. The data analysis technique uses nonparametric Spearmans rho correlation. Based on the results of the analysis obtained from this study, namely the correlation (rxy) = 0.307 with sig (p)=0.010 (p≤0,01), which means there is a significant positive relationship / correlation between democratic leadership style and work motivation. The democratic leadership style variable has an empirical (RE) value of 103.49 and a hypothetical (RH) average of 75, which means that the perception towards leaders is very high. The work motivation variable has an empirical (RE) value of 102, 96 and hypothetical average (RH) of 75 which means that the work motivation is very high. The effective contribution of democratic leadership style to work motivation is 9.4%, which means there are 90.6% of other factors that influence work motivation.
