Abstract

Blindness is a term for someone who has lost or reduced their sense of vision. Blind people are often considered to have an attitude that lacks confidence and cannot interact with others, but the reality that occurs in the field, not a few blind people who are able to build social relations with the community. Looking at the problems that exist, this study aims to find out how the dynamics of blind social relations. The method used is descriptive quality. The process of collecting data uses interviews and observation. The location of the study was conducted at the home of informants in Surakarta and Kartasura. The results of this study show that the form of social relations that occurs is taking part in activities in their neighborhoods, congregating in mosques, actively participating in organizations, deliberation and mediation, sharing stories, cooperating, playing music, and providing solutions to other people's problems. Reasons that underlie social relations in the blind are to want to be useful for others, maintain good relations, and be treated equally by others. Factors that influence social relations are the desire to socialize, need each other, individual character, and have competence, while the inhibiting factor is the lack of knowledge of others about blindness and social status. The impacts that occur are: adding friends, being relied on by others, becoming a role model for children, strengthening social relations, not being discriminated against by others, feeling comfortable being anywhere, and getting new knowledge.
