Abstract

This study aims to find out how the reception of female audiences related to the meaning of the message by the media, especially the Dilan 1990 film, is motivated by a different perspective and insight from each individual. This research uses the theory of audience reception by Stuart Hall. The method used in the study is a qualitative descriptive approach with data collection techniques using the Focus Group Discussions (FGD) interview technique. The sample was selected with the Snowball Sampling technique, with a total of 12 female informants consisting of 3 groups, each containing 4 members, with different research sites namely Surakarta 3 High School, Surakarta 3 Vocational High School and MA Al Muayyad. The results show that the audience's understanding of the message by the media varies. The meaning of the audience towards the message constructed by the media is divided into two receptions namely; dominant reading and negotiated reading. The acceptance in the dominant position of female viewers in the main character of the film Dilan 1990, Dilan, is a romantic, humorous and poetic figure. Acceptance of the negotiating position with women towards the leader Dilan for his negative attitude, namely his strength is used to do things that are disgraceful, namely bran to the teacher and involves brawls between schools that have a negative impact on the school environment and see.
