Abstract
A lot of drug case news which exposes public figure or celebrity in Indonesia is aired in various news programs on television lately. This exposure can indirectly form a social reality which creates anxiety and changes the attitude of the surrounding environment. This is an explanative research which is aimed at explaining the effect among the variables. The population of the study was all housewives in Jatiyoso, Karanganyar. The sample of the study was 93 respondents selected by using cluster random sampling technique. The questionnaire was an instrument to collect the data. The data were later on analyzed by using simple linear regression. From the data analysis, it was found that the public figures’ drug case news had a significant effect on housewives' anxiety and protective attitude. The effect of the news on their anxiety was 30.1% with a significance of 0,000. Meanwhile, the effect of the news on their protective attitudes was 18.9% with a significance 0,000.
