Abstract

Value transmission is the process of sending messages from one generation to the next. Parents are seen as the main source of transmitting values, because parents are the first closest environment to interact with children. Indonesia is rich in culture, each culture has its own peculiarities, one of which is the Lampung tribe known as piil pesenggiri. This study aims to describe the process of transmitting the value of piil pesenggiri to Lampung tribal families. Piil means behavior, pesenggiri means a moral order, so piil pesenggiri is a moral order which is a way of life in behaving for Lampung tribal people. Wherever the Lampung tribe community is located, they must always hold firmly to the participants. This is the background of writer to find out more aboutpiil pesenggiri, namely whether the value transmission of the piil pesenggiri is still ongoing and how parents transmit the value of piil pesenggiri to the child. This study uses a qualitative approach with phenomenology methods and thematic analysis. Data collection uses a semi-structured interview method. The informants were obtained by purposive sampling and snowball sampling. The author determines the criteria for informants, namely parents who are both Lampung tribes and live in Lampung and their teenage children. The results of the study show that the value of the piil pesenggiri is still passed on from generation to generation by parents to children. In addition to the participants' values, the values that are the priority of parents to be transmitted to children are religion, courtesy, discipline, responsibility and the importance of learning achievement. The value transmission method used by parents is giving examples/ exemplary, giving advice, habituation, appeals, dialogue and giving punishment. The exemplary method affects the positive acceptance of children compared to other methods. While the method of punishment can make children feel deterrent and obedient to parents for fear of being punished again. Through the process of transmitting values, parents strive to achieve their expectations in children, namely to become successful people and become saleh and salehah children. Besides parents, grandparents, uncles, aunts, cousins and peers are considered to play a role in transmitting values.
