Abstract

The prevalence rate of leprosy in Indonesia is still high and the problems caused are very complex. Leprosy is an infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium leprae. Leprosy provides physical impact and psychosocial impact for leper. Physical impact from leprosy is nerve damage which can cause disability in patients. Psychosocial impact is depression in patients with leprosy. This research itended to analyze the correlation between dissability level and depression level in patients with leprosy in the Leprosy Rehabilitation Unit of RSUD Kelet Central Java Province. This research applied descriptive analytical method with cross-sectional approach and the sample consisted of 40 patients with leprosy. Sampling technique used was simple random sampling. The result of research showed that 55% have dissability level I, and 45% have dissability level II. Patients with leprosy 42.5% with level of mild depression, 30% with level of moderate depression, and 27.5% with level of severe depression. The research data were analyze using Chi square test. It showed that was correlation between dissability level and depression level in patients with leprosy (p-value 0,000; α 0,05). A physiotherapy program is needed to prevent disability so that it can prevent depression in leprosy patients.
