Abstract

Introduction: Osteoarthritis is a joint disorder that often occurs and can cause disability and movement disorders in patients if not properly treated. Therefore there needs to be a special role in the treatment of osteoarthritis, especially for families. Objective: This study aims to describe the role of families in caring for family members who experience osteoarthritis in Jetis Village. Research method: This research is a type of quantitative research with descriptive analysis method. The sample in this study were families who had family members suffering from osteoarthritis as many as 44 families with total sampling technique. Results: The conclusion of this study is the characteristics of families with family members who experience osteoarthritis in Jetis Village, mostly in the age range of 46-55 years, male gender, elementary school education, and employment as laborers. The role of the family based on each division can be concluded, namely the role of the family as a motivator, facilitator, care giver, mediator coordinator is good, the role of educator is sufficient, the role of initiator is lacking. The role of the family in caring for family members who experience osteoarthritis in Jetis Village is mostly sufficient.
