Abstract
Mitigation is a step or behavior carried out before a natural disaster occurs with the aim of maintaining personal safety and minimizing losses caused by natural disasters that occur. So far the efforts that have been made to increase awareness of disasters in the community include the installation of posters, counseling, evacuation simulations in the field. However, simulations in the field have disadvantages, including 2 participants who cannot feel or see the situation when natural disasters occur, therefore media needs to be developed that can make users feel directly when natural disasters occur, namely by using virtual reality (VR) based media. VR is a technology that allows users to interact with an environment that is simulated using a computer. This study aims to develop VR-based interactive media to mitigate earthquake natural disasters and determine the feasibility of the media being developed. The research method used is Research and Development (R & D) with a Waterfall development model. Media testing was conducted at the Batik 1 Surakarta Vocational School with 30 students as respondents divided into 2 groups, 15 respondents used interactive media and 15 other respondents were only shown earthquake natural disaster mitigation videos. Based on respondents' questionnaires that use interactive media the percentage value obtained is 68% while those that do not use interactive media only get a percentage value of 62%, and the results of the validation assessment by media experts get a percentage value of 83% which is a feasible criterion. It can be concluded that VR-based interactive media research for earthquake natural disaster mitigation is deemed feasible to be used as a medium of introduction to earthquake disaster mitigation measures.
