Abstract

Smoking has become a health problem in the community. Muntingia calabura have various benefits including antiinflammation and antioxidant. This study aim to determine the effect of Muntingia calabura L. leaves extract on the histopathology of lung after induction of cigarettes. The method used in this study is true experimental research using posttest only control group design, with 5 group of mice, which is divided into 5 treatments i.e negative control, positive control, low-dose, moderate dose, and high-dose for 28 days then it was terminated on the 29th. The results showed there is a significant difference in moderate dose with negative control on all three variables i.e alveolar edema, alveolar septal destruction, and inflammatory cells infiltration. Whereas low-dose there is a significant differences with negative control on the alveolar septal destruction variables and there is a significant difference between high-dose and negative contol on the alveolar septal destruction and inflammatory cells infiltration. It can be concluded that Muntingia calabura L. leaves extract can provide improvement in the degree of lung damage in.
