Abstract

This study aims to describe the management of character education in Karawitan extracurricular program at MI Muhammadiyah Karanganyar. The character in this study is focused on the character of responsibility. Management starts from planning, implementation, to inhibiting factors and supporting factors for program implementation. The study was conducted at MI Muhammadiyah Karanganyar. This research uses descriptive qualitative research. Using the technique of collecting direct observation, interviews and document studies. Using the validity test of triangulation data, both triangulation of data sources and triangulation of data collection techniques. The data analysis technique uses the Miles Huberman interactive analysis model. The results of this study indicate that character education planning in Karawitan extracurricular programs begins with; (1) Selection of songs that contain characters. (2) Writing song notations. (3) Analyzing the character load on the song. Implementation of character education begins with; (1) Arranging students' seating positions in pairs between advanced and beginners. (2) Conveying the character's contents during the musical practice. (3) returning the percussion to its original place without being ordered. The inhibiting factors of character education through Karawitan extracurricular programs are; (1) limited human resources that can teach karawitan with the content of character education. (2) Students have difficulty understanding Javanese vocabulary. The supporting factors are; (1) taught by a professional who understands karawitan science and the noble values of Javanese culture.
