Abstract
This test aims to find out how the effect of variations in bamboo fiber with phenolic resin matrix on the level of hardness, wear, and coefficient of friction as non asbestos brake lining alternative, to determine the results of brake pad hardness produced in shore D scale, also wear value and coefficient value swipe. This research uses bamboo fiber, aluminum powder, blackcarbon, calcium carbonate, barium sulfate, phenolic resin. Friction testing is carried out during dry, water and oil conditions while the hardness test uses the ASTM D2240 standard. The results obtained from the hardness test indicate that the addition of bamboo fiber can increase the value of hardness because bamboo fibers have hard and ductile properties, this is shown in the results of 4 gram variation that is 90.33 scale shore D. The best wear value results in all conditions namely variation 4 grams of 318.27 mm3 / hour, 286.44 mm3 / hour, and 218.24 mm3 / hour of bamboo fiber. The best results of friction testing on all conditions, namely 2 grams of bamboo fiber variation of 0.70 µ, 0.69 µ, and 0.63 µ. So it can be concluded that the right addition of bamboo fiber can increase the friction coefficient value under certain conditions.
