Abstract

Aging is an aging process including biological, psychological, and social, where at that time all of these elements experienced a decline. Physical complaints are one of the characteristics of the aging process. Physical complaints that are often experienced and felt by the elderly include immobility, incontinence, memory impairment, visual and hearing impairment, body balance disorders, infections, nutritional balance disorders, sleep disturbances, immune system disorders. This study aims to find out the general description of physical complaints experienced by elderly in Karangasem Village, Laweyan District, Surakarta Regency. This research is a quantitative research using descriptive design and survey approach. The study population was all elderly posyandu participants in Karangasem Village, Surakarta Laweyan District, totaling 78 people. The research sample consisted of 35 elderly who were determined using total sampling technique. Collecting research data using a questionnaire instrument, while data analysis using descriptive test. The results of the study most respondents have physical complaints in the high category, namely in the type of complaints of incontinence, decreased memory and the immune system. Furthermore, categories of physical complaints are present in the types of complaints of immobility, hearing loss, body balance, falls and infections. Whereas in the category of low physical complaints consist of types of vision complaints and nutritional disorders. The conclusion of the study is the description of physical complaints in the elderly in Karangasem Village, Laweyan District, Surakarta Regency, most of them have physical complaints in the high category.
