Abstract

Economic growth is a condition where there is an increase in income caused by an increase in the amount of production of goods and services. Inflation is an economic condition that shows a general trend of price increases. This study aims to examine the causal relationship between inflation and economic growth in Kabupaten Magelang for the period 2003 - 2017. The analytical tool used in this study is Granger causality test. The results of the Granger causality test for inflation and economic growth in Kabupaten Magelang did not have a causal relationship. There is a possibility that the Economic Growth in Magelang Regency is more influenced by various other variables such as investment, consumption, unemployment rate, regional government expenditure and so forth. On the other hand, there is a possibility that inflation is still a monetary phenomenon, so inflation in Magelang is not caused by the real sector such as economic growth, but is more caused by the monetary effect such as the amount of money in circulation and interest rates
