Abstract
Friction stir welding (FSW) is the process of connecting metals without fillers and without melting. One of the factors that can affect the results of welding is the process of heat treatment of annealing and normalizing. In this study welding was carried out on aluminum alloy plates (Al-Fe) with aluminum alloy plates (Al-Cu) with a size of 150 × 50 × 30 mm with a tool rotation of 1500 rpm and a feed rate of 60 mm / minute. This study aims to determine the effect of annealing and normalizing at temperatures of 415 ° C on the mechanical properties of aluminum alloy plate (Al-Fe) joints with aluminum alloy plates (Al-Cu) using the friction stir welding method. From the results of the study it was found that the maximum tensile stress and maximum strain were obtained by the normalized specimens of 78.33 MPa and 17.69%. From the results of the Brinell hardness test it was found that the specimens which were heat treated decreased the hardness value compared to the specimens that were not heat treated. In the weld area which is not heat treated the hardness value is 37.6 BHN, whereas in the specimens annealed 28.3 BHN and normalizing 28.1 BHN. From the observation of microstructure there are bright areas which are Al phases and dark regions which are Al2Cu phases in aluminum alloy (Al-Cu) or AlFe3 in aluminum alloys (Al-Fe).
